Bare Performance Nutrition is one of the older companies in the supplement world, starting back in 2012 in founder Nick Bare’s college apartment. In supplement terms, that’s a lifetime. Bare’s commitment to transparency and service have made BPN one of the leading names in sports nutrition.

Bare Performance’s motto is “ONE MORE GO,” and they design supplements to give users the push they need to break through the wall at every workout.

Initial Impressions With BPN Pre Workout

As you might guess from Bare Performance’s name, their design is clean, minimal, and appealing. BPN doesn’t need to beat you over the head with their toughness – just a simple black canister, primary colors, and clear text.

When we opened up our supply, we find the powder isn’t quite as fine as some other brands. In mixing up a pre-workout in the shaker bottle, some of the product wanted to settle to the bottom, requiring a fresh shake before every swig. Not ideal, but not a deal-breaker.

Energy Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • Caffeine anhydrous 300 mg
  • Dicaffeine Malate 34 mg

When you choose a name like Flight for your pre-workout formula, you better bring it. Well, Bare Perfomance Nutrition is making sure you at least take off with 300 mg of Caffeine anhydrous and 34 mg of Decaffeine Malate. With the FDA daily recommendation at 400 mg, Flight is packed with enough caffeine to get you flying on your workout.

On the other hand, 34 mg of dicaffeine malate isn’t a whole lot, but the addition of malic acid helps stretch out the energy boost of the caffeine to help keep you from crashing before your workout is done.

Nootropic (Focus and Mood) Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • N-Acetyl L-Tyrosine 1.5 g
  • Huperzia Serrata extract 5 mg

Energy is crucial for a good workout, and so is mental focus and clarity. That’s what makes nootropics such an important element in a pre-workout supplement. BPN’s Flight offers N-Acetyle L-Tyrosine at an optimal dose of 1.5 g. Most pre-workouts have L-Tryosine, but the acetylated form is more water-soluble than the conventional form, making it easier to process and more effective.

Flight also includes 5 mg of Huperzia Serrata extract, a supplement derived from club moss. While it hasn’t been sufficiently studied yet, Huperzia Serrata seems to have a positive effect on memory and mental function, so we’ll call this one worth watching.

Anti-Fatigue Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • Beta-Alanine 3.2 g

Beta-Alanine is the go-to supplement for staving off fatigue in a demanding workout, and hard-core BA believers crave that skin-crawling tingle. Well, at 3.2 g, Flight has enough beta-alanine to give you that tingle and keep you pushing through an intensive workout.

Flight also includes Bioperine black pepper extract and taurine, which aren’t precisely anti-fatigue ingredients, but can help with endurance and recovery. They’re in slightly low doses, though, so the beta-alanine is (as usual) carrying most of the weight.

Pump and Blood Flow Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • L-Citrulline 2 g

We have to admit, we’re a little disappointed with BPN Flight when it comes to pump and blood flow. It’s nice that they’re not trying to artificially bump up the pump with something like glycerol, but 2 g of L-Citrulline is way underdosed to really have any effectiveness. According to most sources, an ideal dose is 6-8 g.

It’s hard to say exactly what BPN is going for with just 2 g, except to be able to say that Flight offers something for cardiovascular performance.

Strength Support & Body Composition Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • Betaine anhydrous 2.5 g

Flight seems to be more focused on energy and mental clarity than on gains, so it’s no surprising to see that there’s no creatine. But we are glad to report an optimal dose of 2.5g of betaine anhydrous, which has a good track record of boosting hypertrophy and improving body composition.

In some studies, 2.5g of betaine shows a loss in fat and an increase in muscle mass – not in sedentary subjects, but in active subjects. In other words, betaine doesn’t do the job for you, but it can help you get the job done.

Electrolyte Ingredients in BPN Flight Pre Workout

  • Sodium 95 mg

We all know you’re not going to get very far with a workout if you get dehydrated and crash. Flight is already offering several ingredients (like caffeine malate and beta-alanine) intended to keep you on track through the peaks, so it’s not surprising to see some electrolyte support as well.

Flight’s 95mg of sodium is close enough to an optimal dose to be worthwhile. It’s not going to take the place of whatever electrolyte solution you normally use for recovery, but it’s a good amount to keep you in the game.

The Extra Mile?

Other Pre workout Ingredients in BPN Flight:

  • Bioperine™ (black pepper) 5 mg
  • Taurine 1 g

As mentioned earlier, Flight includes a 5mg dose of Bioperine black pepper extract and 1g of taurine. Neither of these is particularly effective on their own, but they are very useful for boosting the effects of other ingredients.

They also include 500mg of Vitamin C. The antioxidant effects of ascorbic acid have been pretty well researched, but it’s worth noting that studies tend to use 1000mg or more to see real impact. So the Vitamin C in Flight may have some recovery effects, but it’s hard to say with any certainty.

Taste & Flavors for BPN Flight Pre Workout

Bare Performance offers Flight in 5 flavors:

  • Blue Raspberry
  • Green Apple
  • Sour Watermelon
  • Strawberry Kiwi
  • Pink Lemonade

We tried Pink Lemonade. True to its name, Pink Lemonade was a little sweet-sour, not overpowering flavor, similar to Crystal Lite. There is a little aftertaste, presumably due to the unusual combination of both sucralose and stevia.

Who BPN Flight is For

Flight is definitely for experienced athletes who want energy and focus for intense, heavy workouts.

Who BPN Flight Pre Workout is Not For

We wouldn’t recommend Flight for anyone bothered by stimulants or who hates both stevia and sucralose.

Potential Side Effects of Flight

  •  Jitters and tingling from high caffeine and beta-alanine content

Final Verdict

We think Flight is an excellent product for those who want a pre-workout buzz, and it’s actually a pretty tasty choice compared to other pre-workouts.
