If you have a Chevy Volt on order, and you didn't qualify for the free Volt charging station tax credit, Chevrolet has announced pricing for the SPX 240V charger. The good news is that the unit only costs $490.00; the bad news is that it can only be installed by an SPX technician, and the installation runs $1,475, or about three times the cost of the unit itself. Total cost for the installed charger unit is $1,965.
The SPX 240V charger isn't required to recharge the Volt's batteries, but it does make life easier for Volt owners. Recharging time without the SPX 240V is estimated to be 8 to 10 hours on household 110v current. Charging time with the SPX 240 is reduced to an estimate four hours.
