We all like a great underdog story. Where the little guy makes a comeback to defeat the big guy. Where the weak defeat the powerful. Where the outgunned dig deep down and find what it takes to win against all odds.
As we saw with the recent healthcare bill, there is no more power than legal power. It was ultimately the Supreme Court, an institution of law, that decided whether the bill was constitutional or not. And it was lawyers who made the cases for and against.
So given the enormous power of law in the United States, it is not surprising that the wealthy and powerful often use the legal system to get what they want. And because of that, there are many David vs. Goliath stories that emerge. Here are six of the greatest underdog victories in recent history:

Personally, I'm most impressed by the last one because it involves citizens of a poor country defeating a powerful oil company based out of the United States. That's a true triumph of the underdog.
