5 Tips for Beating Depression

Depression affects millions of people, some more than others. And in the middle of winter, it is even more prevalent. Here are five tips for beating depression:

1. Get More Sun

Try to get a minimum of 15-30 minutes per day of exposure to the sun. This is especially important in the winter when most people get very little exposure to the sun. If you cannot get out, then make sure to take a vitamin D supplement.

2. Get Plenty of Sleep

Depression gets magnified when you get too little sleep. Aim to get at least 7 hours of sleep per night, and if possible, sneak in a nap in the afternoon.

3. Fix Your Diet

A lower carb, higher protein diet will keep you more stable and you'll experience less mood swings. The key is to eat foods that nature produces. Green veggies, fish and grassfed meat are ideal.

4. Develop a new skill

Skill builds confidence and nothing beats depression like confidence. Plus when learning a new skill you have a place to focus your energy ... you feel purposeful.

5. Play More

Have fun. Laugh. Enjoy life. Be whimsical. Be a little crazy. Don't take yourself so seriously. Be active.
